Actress Drew Barrymore, who debuted as a director with critically acclaimed 2009 movie
Whip It, is looking for another project to helm.

The actress says she is desperately trying to find a new script to start work on, but admits it has to be something she wouldn’t mind working on everyday for three years, according to reports.

“As a director, I’m really trying hard to find something I fall in love with again because it’s a really long, intense job that you work on every day for the next three years,” Barrymore said in an interview.

The 35-year-old star, who rose to fame as a child actress in the 80s, says she loves working as a director, although it makes her personal life seem messy in comparison.

“I have just always wanted to direct. My whole life has been sort of trying to hunt and gather information on how I could be the best director I could be, and I just want to grow and evolve in that form of the job. And I just love films,” she added.

Barrymore recently appeared in romantic comedy Going the Distance with on and off boyfriend Justin Long.

The actress says when it comes to direction, she is very fastidious and wants to know every little detail before going behind the camera.

“When it comes to directing I’m as fastidious as it gets. I’m homework orientated, I’m diligent, I’m disciplined and inexhaustible. But my real life is a disaster,” she said.

Drew Barrymore thinks she had ”amazing chemistry” with on-off boyfriend Justin Long in new film ‘Going The Distance’ and claims it is ”sexy” to keep their romance a mystery to other people.

Drew Barrymore thinks mystery is “sexy”.

The actress – who has refused to confirm reports she has rekindled her romance with Justin Long – thinks the natural chemistry between the pair on new movie ‘Going The Distance’ has made the film even better.

She said: “We never talk about when we’re together and when we’re not. It never, ever will be addressed. Mystery is sexy. But I definitely think it was a real benefit that we knew each other so well so the laughter was genuine and the struggles, we understand.

“It’s very rare for me to walk into a movie and have such an honest amazing chemistry with someone; that was such a blessing and a gift and I really felt lucky.”

The ‘Wedding Singer’ star also admitted she has experienced the pain of long-distance love – as depicted in the new film – but believes it is possible to make a romance work even when spending so much time apart.

She added in an interview with Australian newspaper Nine to Five: “I’ve been in long-distance relationships my whole life so I totally related to this as a woman. I know what I would want to make a long-distance relationship work, such as letters, surprising each other or making plans to do things that make you feel great and alive, and feel really special and think that you’re a part of this unit and it’s not a phantom thing.

“I think probably one of the real pitfalls of long-distance relationships, is the not knowing all the time and the inconsistency.”

The actress — who stars alongside on/off beau Justin Long in the flick — admits one of the highlights of shooting the romcom was having the chance to experiment with ways to act legless.

“One of the challenges that I was most excited about was doing the drunk scene,” explains Drew.

“Me and the director really focused on what type of drunk my character was and what we could adlib and what would be spontaneous. It was the most fun day at work ever, because I really just let loose.”

Drew recently revealed that she insists on people sending her letters.

“I still write letters, I don’t want to communicate in a relationship via text and email,” she said.

“I love a letter. You are thoughtful when you write it and someone can read it and hold onto it and go back to it.

“For me there’s something very dangerous to have everything so instantaneous.”

The Music and Lyrics star, who refuses to confirm speculation that she has again rekindled her romance with on-off boyfriend Justin Long, thinks it is more meaningful to
pen a note, instead of sending an email or other electronic communication, reports entertainment website

“I don’t want to communicate via email. You are thoughtful when you write it and someone can read it and hold onto it and go back to it,” Barrymore said. “For me, there’s something very dangerous to have everything so instantaneous.”

The 35-year-old star admitted that she listens to music in cassette tapes, use a typewriter and shoot movies on film rather than digitally. She pines for a time in the past, when people were more formal.

“There’s a part of me that misses the grace and formalities of the past, like when gentlemen wore hats and opened doors,” she says.</blockquote

Hollywood star Drew Barrymore wouldn’t play a married character in a film because she doesn’t relate to it. The 35-year-old actress, who stars as a journalist in a long-distance relationship in Going The Distance, admits she likes doing romantic comedy movies, but only enjoys intelligent realistic representations of love, London Evening Standard reported.

“I need rom-coms at the end of a bad day – a nice happy ending and a fairytale. On the other hand I like movies that are very grounded in reality but still maintain their comedy,” she said.

“I’m not at a place in my life where I want to play a character who says, ‘I just have to get married!. “I swear to God, with some of these romantic comedies, these women are being shot in the butt with steroids, and I fell like they’ll eat the husband alive on their wedding day.

It just terrifies me,” Barrymore added. The actress, who is said to be in a relationship with her Going the Distance co-star Justin Long, also admits she likes the idea of exploring the difficulties of being a modern woman in a film.

“This movie asks the question: ‘How do you keep the job and the guy?’ That is a question I’m interested in discussing, not like, ‘I’m going to rip your hair out because you stole my wedding dress.’ I don’t care about that,” she said.

Going The Distance is released worldwide throughout September

Drew Barrymore has explained why she has been pictured with the word ‘Breathe’ written on her arm.

The actress said having it written there was a result of a recent two-week solo visit to India.

Speaking on David Letterman’s chat show, she said: ‘I was trying to remember the importance of everything and to keep breathing.

‘I want to remember everything I study, to keep up with my meditations and prayers.’

Talking about her journey, she said: ‘I was studying spirituality and religions and I explored different temples and walked barefoot through the streets. I went to Delhi. It’s a very spiritual, thoughtful place. People are so kind.’

‘It was a life-changing experience. I was looking for a shift of consciousness and I was very blessed.’

She also told how she took the ashes of her dog Flossy to India to scatter them in the River Ganges.

But she insisted: ‘I’m not one of those crazy neurotic dog people. I’m a cool girl.’

Drew Barrymore won’t join twitter.

The ‘Going the Distance’ actress has no interest in the micro-blogging site and admits she is an “old fashioned girl” when it comes to technology.

She said: “I know I’m an anomaly, I know everyone else is in love with it, but it’s not for me. I like people who use it for comedy to make people laugh.

“If people are making other people laugh and making jokes then that’s awesome.”

When pressed to try out the site by Absolute Radio DJ Geoff Lloyd, she refused, saying: “I’m an old fashioned girl.”

Drew’s ‘Going the Distance’ co-star and on/off boyfriend Justin Long believes the 35-year-old actress will stick to her self-imposed twitter ban.

He said: “She won’t join, I promise you she won’t.”

In a joint interview, he added to Drew: “Like as disparate as it is from your nature, I still feel like you would tweet some really funny things, you’d have some good entertainment.”

Drew – who refuses to confirm if she is in a relationship with Justin – previously claimed she thinks technology is killing romance.

She said: “I just don’t like this compulsive, instantaneous, over- information, lack-of-privacy, weirdo aspect of the world. If you meet someone, they already know everything.

“What about showing up on the date and saying, ‘What do you do for a living? Who are your friends?’ Yes, you can avoid maybe a serial killer, but who f***ing knows? I am a romantic and it scares me.”

The 35-year-old, who has recently been in an on-off relationship with actor Justin Long, says she prefers her dates to be quirky and original rather than lavish.

The twice-married actress says: “I don’t need fancy, I just need clever.

“I love someone who is interested in art and film and going to movies and picking out a nice little restaurant. Someone who takes you out for tacos that you eat on the sidewalk.”

Drew appears alongside Long, 32, in her latest film Going The Distance. Having both been in the UK for the film’s premiere they were together at the V Festival in Chelmsford over the weekend.

Some new information about the movie is also featured.

John Krasinski and Drew Barrymore are set to star in director Ken Kwapis’ (License to Wed) Whales. Universal Pictures hopes to shoot this fall – depending on Krasinski’s Office schedule. The movie is based on a real event from 1988 when a trio of California gray whales got trapped under the ice in the Arctic Circle.

Krasinski will play a small town newspaper reporter who breaks the story. Barrymore plays a Greenpeace activist, and they turn the potential tragedy into an international story. The incident created a temporary Cold War thaw as President Ronald Reagan and Soviet leader Mikhail Gorbachev found a common cause. They interceded to save the whales.

Since certain countries hunt whales and the magnificent creatures are still threatened (how quickly everyone forgot what Star Trek IV: The Voyage Home taught us), I’m on board with any movie that might help save some of them in the future. Even if Ken Kwapis is directing it.
