Drew Barrymore – Lady Boy Drew Barrymore

Contact Music have published a great article/interview about Drew and about being a lady boy.

Drew Barrymore often feels like a boy because she’s isn’t very girly and likes sports and ”hot chicks”.

Drew Barrymore feels like a boy.

The actress – who made her directorial debut in the new movie ‘Whip It’, a story about a teenager who is pushed into beauty pageants by her mother before becoming a roller derby player – doesn’t like being girly and often feels quite “androgynous”.

She said: “I’m like a 13 or 14-year-old boy who loves fun music and hot chicks and sport, and I like empowerment and women who are capable and humorous. I think I am extremely androgynous. I love comedy and jokes. I am always the person who is fighting in marketing meetings, ‘Please don’t forget the boys, remember them too.’

“Whenever people get too girly, I am, like, ‘No, no.’ I just appreciate women and whenever I fall in love with their minds and their talents, that is really what gets me hot.”

The 35-year-old star also claims her life is easier now she is older because nothing overwhelms her.

She told The Sunday Times Culture magazine: “I think you start to feel more secure. You feel so overwhelmed in your 20s, and you sit around going, ‘Oh my god!’

“You find yourself talking to friends about work and your life, and you wonder if it is all going to be OK – ‘Is this going to work out, what is going to happen?’ Now, I don’t feel as if I know it’s going to be OK, but I don’t feel it is going to kill me. I’ve got a good perspective on life now. It’s like, ‘We are going to get through this.’”

Drew Barrymore: times have changed but she’s still young at heart

A great new interview with Drew has been published on Times Online.

Steven Spielberg had a daughter long before he had children of his own. He met her when she was six years old, a precocious, lively and extremely talented child whom he cast in a blockbusting sci-fi movie. Since then, the director has watched with a mixture of fear, hope and immense pride as she stumbled through her teenage years, which spiralled into a nightmare of alcohol and drugs, before pulling herself round, establishing herself as one of the most notable actresses in Hollywood, and going on to form a production company behind a string of hits that have earned almost $1 billion at the box office.

Drew Barrymore is not Spielberg’s flesh and blood, but she is family. Spielberg, who directed her in his 1982 hit ET, is her godfather, and insists that he and Barrymore “were like dad and daughter”. She is now 35, and Spielberg has his own children, but the pair remain close. When Barrymore wrote her first script, her godfather was the first person to whom she showed it. It was a mother-and-daughter tale; Spielberg dubbed it “Terms of Endrewment”. This month sees the release of Barrymore’s first film as a director, the coming-of-age tale Whip It, and again Spielberg saw it early on.

“I showed the film to my godfather and I was so thrilled,” Barrymore begins when we speak at her LA-based production company, Flower Films. “It was an emotional moment for me — everything I’ve learnt about film-making, I owe to him.” Judging by the movie’s ambition, she has learnt a lot. Spielberg says that Barrymore was offering him advice about his setups when she was just six: he exaggerates, one suspects, but Whip It does suggest a keen cinematic eye.
